People find inspiration in different ways my inspiration is quite unique. While watching Undercover Boss, 7 year ago, I said to my husband: I can do that? He laughed and said: ‘Ja, I suppose you can’. Well that was kind of the end of the conversation. A couple of years later I suffered a corporate burn-out and I was told to find a hobby. Studying or languages were to two options given. Well, studying and languages might be someone else’s options, but not mine. My husband is Afrikaans and I can barely keep up to understand him sometimes.
So, I picked up a paint brush for the first time in 10 years, off course with a glass of wine, or should I say a bottle of wine. While painting I recalled how I use to bunk science classes at schools to find my way to the art class. Painting takes me to another world, a stress-free world. A couple of years later I sold my business and gave up the hustle and bustle of Johannesburg for Limpopo, more specifically, Polokwane.
After a fundraising event at a church in Johannesburg, I had 40 easels and a few paint brushes. I posted an event on Facebook, and that is how Paint and Wine turned a blank canvas into a colourful masterpiece. The first event was fully booked, in fact over booked, the next month more painters, or should I say winers, joined, and now we host 90 people per event in Polokwane. I decided to follow the same footprint as with my previous business and saw a gap in the market, specifically in smaller towns, where people fell in love with the concept. The proof is in the pudding, or should I say in the painting, people simply love these evenings out! To see how people forget about all the obstacles in life and just enjoy great company and good wine makes me love what I do even more.
